Background

One of Canada’s leading drug store retailers with more than 1,300 stores and the largest loyalty program in Canada, needed to upgrade their promotion solution to enable the delivery of complex promotions demanded by their customers and business. Targeted offers, dynamic coupons, and customer choice awards were critical requirements, enabling this tier-1 retailer to create a competitive advantage and enhance the benefits of their loyalty program. The implementation of a new solution needed to optimize and extend the retailer’s existing mission-critical systems.

Transformation

Partnering with XCCommerce (XC) to support their POS Enhancement Program, the Client implemented and integrated XC’s Promotion Solution Suite (PSS) with their existing corporate systems and new POS solution.
XC’s industry leading promotion solution helped the Client transform its promotions and marketing strategies, enabling rapid creation of unique and complex promotions to support and enhance their loyalty program.
The XC solution helped transform store operations and cashier processes. Cashier involvement was eliminated with XC’s fully automated Promotion Engine handling complex promotions, loyalty rewards and redemption, and promotion overlap resolution. Customers realized a differentiated in-store experience along with consistent promotion, and significantly reduced check out times.

Leveraging the rich and sophisticated functionality from XCCommerce’s Promotion Solution Suite, our Client can build the complex promotions required to support their unique business needs and further strengthen their loyalty program. Some of the key benefits realized include:

  • Reward consumer loyalty with targeted offers based on multiple membership levels
  • Consistent application of promotions regardless of store or channel
  • Increased customer loyalty through a differentiated in-store customer experience
  • Reduced cost of promotions as a result of the conflict and overlap resolution functions

  • Increased return shopping visits for non-loyalty customers through the use of bounceback coupons and gift card rewards

With the implementation of the XC solution, the Client was able to further strengthen their extremely successful loyalty program by rewarding consumer loyalty with loyalty points and targeted offers based on membership level. The flexiblity of the XC products also allowed the implementation of a new feature as part of their customer loyalty program, where the consumer receives a message at the end of a transaction stating “You could have earned xx points today”. The retailer also leveraged XC’s innovative rules-based promotions engine to create a unique Customer Choice promotion, where the promotion engine calculates two possible rewards (a number of points or a discount amount) and the customer is presented the choice.
